The road to a record-breaking fifth win in a row and tenth title overall was not easy for Team Canada at the 1997 World Junior Championships in Geneva. Canada finished second behind the United States in its preliminary group with two ties and two wins. After victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals, the Canadian team faced the United States in the first all-North American final in the history of the World Junior Championships. Canada beat Team USA 2-0 to claim the gold, while the Americans settled for silver. Russia earned the bronze medal. The tournament was a low-scoring affair, with Slovakia's Radoslav Pavlikovsky, USA's Erik Rasmussen and Finland's Tommi Kallio sharing the lead with nine points apiece, though it was Russia's Alexei Morozov (one of four players to finish with eight points) who was tabbed as the tournament's Best Forward. The Best Defenseman was Joseph Corvo of the United States, while Canada's Marc Denis was the Best Goalie.
