Eric Lindros led Team Canada to a gold medal on home ice in Saskatchewan at the World Junior Championships in 1991. He topped the team with six goals and 11 assists, but it was a goal by John Slaney that proved to be the key to victory. Slaney's goal gave Canada a 3-2 win over the Soviet Union. Both countries finished the tournament with identical records of 5-1-1 for the second year in a row, but Canada earned the gold because of its head-to-head victory over the Soviets. Czechoslovakia finished just one point behind both countries with a 5-2-0 record to claim the bronze. Doug Weight of the fourth-place United States team topped the scoring parade with 19 points (five goals and 14 assists), while Pavel Bure of the Soviet Union led the tournament with 12 goals, but it was Eric Lindros who was picked as the Best Forward. Jiri Slegr of Czechoslovakia was selected as the Best Defenseman, while Sweden's Pauli Jaks was the Best Goalie.
