The last game of the 1987 World Junior Championships in Piestany, Czechoslovakia could have brought Canada a second straight title. However, the game against the Soviet Union was halted midway due to a brawl and the International Ice Hockey Federation suspended both teams. As a result, Finland won its first world junior title. Czechoslovakia finished second, while the United States claimed the bronze for its first medal in tournament history. Ulf Dahlen of Sweden was the top scorer with seven goals and eight assists, but it was Czechoslovakia's Robert Kron who was chosen as the tournament's Best Forward. Finland's Markus Ketterer was the Best Goalie. Calle Johansson of Sweden was the Best Defenseman.
