Canada won the World Junior Championships for just the second time in 1985 at a tournament held in Helsinki, Finland. As in 1982, the Canadians soundly defeated the Soviets (5-0 this year) en route to the gold medal. The team was coached by Terry Simpson and consisted of a lot of future NHLers such as Jeff Beukeboom, Brian Bradley, Adam Creighton, Stephane Richer, Wendel Clark, Shayne Corson, Bob Bassen and Claude Lemieux. The Canadians claimed the gold medal with a record of 5-0-2. Czechoslovakia was also 5-0-2 and settled for silver. The bronze medal went to the USSR. Craig Billington of Canada was named the Best Goalie, while Michal Pivonka of Czechoslovakia was the Best Forward, though the tournament scoring leader was Esa Kesinen of Finland with 20 points (six goals, 14 assists). Fellow Finn Esa Tikkanen had 19 points. Honors for the Best Defenseman went to Vesa Salo of Finland.
