Team Canada began its incredible run of five straight victories at the World Junior Championships with a gold medal at the 1993 tournament in Gavle. Led by Paul Kariya and Chris Pronger, Canada had to defeat the host Swedes to claim gold. The silver medalists from Sweden got amazing performances from two of their forwards. Peter Forsberg set a new tournament scoring record by registering seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points in just seven games. Markus Naslund accumulated 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points. Forsberg was named the Best Forward and was joined by Naslund and Kariya on the tournament All-Star Team. Janne Gronvall of Finland earned honors as the Best Defenseman. Canada's Manny Legace was the Best Goalie as the Canadians claimed the gold medal despite placing no players among the top-10 in scoring.
