The last unofficial World Junior Championship was held in Finland without the participation of a United States. The Soviets won again, making it three in a row. Canada finished second for the second straight year, while Czechoslovakia earned a bronze medal. It was now obvious that this tournament had become a very important event on the international calendar. It was decided that the first official World Junior Championship would take place the next year.
