World Championships Photo Sweden hosted the 1995 championship and swallowed a bitter pill when they watched rival Finland claim the gold medal. The Finns came very close to a championship at Milan the previous year when they lost the title game to Canada in a shoot-out.

The Finns had an edge in 1995 because the NHL lockout and subsequent extended schedule prevented many of the other contenders from using their best players. Finland had at is disposal several young players who were about to embark on NHL careers. The excellent young line of Saku Koivu, Jere Lehtinen and Ville Peltonen shone throughout the competition. Goalie Jarmo Myllys was also at the top of his game. As in the previous year, Russia lost in the quarterfinals and did not have an opportunity to play for a medal. The bronze medal went to the Canada, which iced a team without a single NHL player on its roster. The Canadians, coached by Tom Renney, defeated Czechoslovakia 4-1 in the bronze medal game. Canada's Andrew McKim was the tournament scoring champion with six goals and 13 points in eight games.
