Carl Wetzel

Carl Wetzel was a journeyman minor leaguer who had appeared in two NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings in 1964-65 before joining the United States National Team in 1966-67. Wetzel appeared with the U.S. team at the 1967 World Championships and was named a tournament All-Star and the Best Goalie despite the Americans' fifth-place finish.

Wetzel made a final NHL appearance when he played five games with the Minnesota North Stars in 1967-68. He returned to the U.S. National Team in 1969-70 and helped the Americans win the B-Pool World Championship. After playing for the U.S. National Team again in 1970-71, Wetzel spent the 1971-72 season with Kitzbuhel in Austria before playing the final game of his career with the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the World Hockey Association in 1972-73.
