Gary Suter

Gary Suter won the Calder Trophy as the NHL rookie of the year with the Calgary Flames in 1985-86. His 68 points that season were then the second-highest total ever recorded by a first-year defenseman behind Larry Murphy's 76 in 1980-81. Fellow American Brian Leetch has since topped Suter's total with 71 points in 1988-89.

Suter played for the U.S. team that beat Canada at the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and was a member of the U.S. Olympic team in Nagano in 1998. Suter returned to the Olympics in 2002 and earned a silver medal with Team U.S.A. He had previously represented the United States at the World Championships in 1985 and 1992 and at the Canada Cup in 1987 and 1991.

Suter played his final season of professional hockey in 2001-02 with the San Jose Sharks.
