Jim Craig

The backbone of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" U.S. Olympic Team, Jim Craig played every game at Lake Placid, earning a 6-0-1 record and a 2.14 goals-against average. He was spectacular in the key 4-3 win over the Soviet Union, making 36 saves as the U.S. team was outshot 39-16. Television coverage of Jim Craig searching the stands for his father after the American victory is one of the enduring images of the Lake Placid Games.

Craig was signed by the NHL's Atlanta Flames shortly after the Olympics and then played with the Boston Bruins in 1980-81. He would later see brief NHL action with the Minnesota North Stars. Craig returned to the U.S. National Team in 1982-83 and was named the All-Star goaltender when the Americans won the B-Pool World Championships in 1983. Prior to his Olympic experience, Craig had represented the United States at the World Championships in 1979.
