Victor Lindquist scored what proved to be the gold medal-winning goal for Canada at the 1932 Winter Olympics when he put the puck past American Frankie Farrell after 7:12 of overtime for a 2-1 victory in the opening game of the tournament. Lindquist later added a two more goals and six assists in a pair of wins over Poland (9-0 and 10-0) and Germany (4-1 and 5-0) before Canada clinched the Olympic gold medal in the four-team tournament with a 1-1 triple-overtime tie against the United States in the final game.
It had been the Winnipeg Hockey Club that represented Canada in Lake Placid in 1932, and in 1935 Olympic teammates Vic Lindquist, Roy Hinkle and Romeo Rivers were members of the Winnipeg Monarchs team that won the World Championship. Lindquist later become a prominent referee and officiate games at the 1962 and 1963 World Championships. |
