Bobby Orr

Injuries kept Bobby Orr out of the historic Canada-Russia Summit Series in 1972, but the eight-time Norris Trophy winner as the NHL's best defenseman would use the inaugural Canada Cup tournament to spotlight his many talents on the international stage. Orr was brilliant in this series, taking care of business in the defensive end and also tying fellow defenseman Denis Potvin for the Team Canada scoring lead with nine points (two goals and seven assists) as the Canadian squad won the tournament. Not only was Orr named an All-Star on defense, but he was also named the Canada Cup's Most Valuable Player. The tournament would prove to be Orr's swan song though, as continued problems with his knees limited him to just 26 games over the final three years of his NHL career.
