Steve Yzerman

Steve Yzerman made his international hockey debut at the World Junior Championships in 1983, when the Canadian team featuring Mario Lemieux recorded a third-place finish at the tournament. In 1984, a 19-year-old Yzerman was the youngest member of the Canadian team that beat Sweden in the finals of the Canada Cup. Yzerman has gone on to represent Canada three times at the World Championships, winning a silver medal in 1985 and in 1989 when he was also named a tournament All-Star. Yzerman led the World Championships in scoring with 20 points (10 goals and 10 assists) in 1990 and was named the Best Forward as well as a tournament All-Star although Canada finished in fourth place. Yzerman also played for Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and at the Nagano Olympics in 1998. Yzerman returned to the Olympics in 2002, adding leadership and a gutsy performance (he was said to be playing injured) to help Canada win a gold medal. Star Player Photo
