Brian Leetch

Brian Leetch made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers on February 29, 1988 after competing for the United States at the Calgary Olympics. He had been an All-American at Boston College in 1986-87 and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award after becoming the first freshman ever nominated for the top individual honor in U.S. College hockey. Leetch left the school after one season to join the U.S. National Team and served as team captain at the Olympics.

In addition to his Olympic experience in 1988, Leetch represented the United States at the World Junior Championships in 1985, 1986 and 1987, winning a bronze medal in 1986 and being named to the tournament All-Star Team in 1987. He also played at the World Championships in 1987 and 1989 and at the Canada Cup in 1991. In 1996, Leetch was a captain of the American team that beat Canada at the World Cup of Hockey. In 1998, he returned to the Olympics as a member of the U.S. team in Nagano. Leetch returned to the Olympics with the U.S. yet again at the Salt Lake City games in 2002 earning a silver medal while being named to the tournament all-star team. For the 2004 World Cup of Hockey Leetch was again looked upon to play major minutes on defense for Team USA, but the defending champions were unable to get past the semi-finals.
