Wayne Gretzky and the rest of the management team were under the watchful eyes of an entire nation, as Canada went searching for and found its first Olympic title since 1952. Although unimpressive its first two games, the team gelled and gained confidence as the tournament unfolded. Players dutifully put aside personal goals in favour of the team concept - led by team captain Mario Lemieux as well as Steve Yzerman. As always, good goaltending is a must on any championship team - this time Martin Brodeur carried the load for the Canucks. The Olympic-sized ice put skating at a premium, so stars such as Joe Sakic, Jarome Iginla, Paul Kariya and Simon Gagne excelled up front, with both Sakic and Iginla each coring twice in a 5 - 2 final against the Americans. And with that, the "Gold or Bust" expectations were fulfilled.
