Jorma Valtonen


Born on December 12, 1946. During his long lasting career as a goaltender in Finland, he represented TPS Turku, RU-38 Pori (national champion 1967), Ässät Pori (national champion 1971), Jokerit Helsinki (national champion 1973) and FoPS. While playing abroad, Valtonen starred for HC Val Gardena (national champion 1976) and Alleghe in Italy, as well as EHC 70 München in Germany. Over the course of suiting up for 232 national team games for Finland, Jorma Valtonen participated nine times in the IIHF World Championship tournaments between 1970 and 1979. In the 1972 tournament in Prague, Valtonen took home an individual honour, winning the IIHF Directorate Best Goalkeeper Award. He also was a three-time participant in the Olympic Winter Games - 1972, 1980 and 1984 and was a member of the 1976 Canada Cup team. Jorma has also served as head coach of the Finnish Women's National Team.
