Frantisek Pospisil


Born on April 2, 1944 in Unhost, Czechoslovakia. Frantisek Pospisil played defence for his club team Poldi Kladno from 1961 to 1978 in Czechoslovakia and for EV Landshut in Germany during the 1978-79 season. In 262 national team games he scored 25 goals. Frantisek Pospisil participated in the IIHF World Senior Pool A Championship tournament from 1967 to 1977, receiving a medal from all but one tournament. Highlighted from those tournaments were the three IIHF World Championship titles in 1972, 1976 and 1977. Pospisil also was an Olympic silver medallist in 1968 and 1976 and a bronze medallist in 1972. On an individual level, Pospisil won the IIHF Best Defenseman Award in 1972 and 1976. He was also a member of the IIHF All Star Team in 1972, 1976 and 1977. In later years, Frantisek Pospisil was an assistant coach of the Czechoslovakian National Team together with head coach Dr. Jan Starsi from 1986 to 1988.
