Mike Curran


Born on April 14, 1944 in International Falls, Minnesota, USA. Goaltender Mike "Lefty" Curran was the member of the U.S. National Ice Hockey Team that won the silver medal at the 1972 Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan. He represented the U.S. National Team for three consecutive years from 1969 to 1971. Curran won a gold medal at the 1970 IIHF World Championship Pool B. By allowing only 11 goals in the seven games for an average of 1.57 goals against in the tournament, he helped to promote the United States back to Pool A. He went on to play for the Minnesota Fighting Saints in the inaugural World Hockey Association season in 1972-73 and continued to play in the league through to 1977. Curran was selected to the U.S. National Team in 1976 and 1977, and was one of the goaltenders to play for Team USA in the inaugural Canada Cup in 1976.
