Viktor Kuzkin


Born July 6, 1940. Viktor Kuzkin helped build and manitain the Central Red Army dynasty during his playing career that began in 1959 and continue until 1976. During that time, Kuzkin appeared in 530 games for the CSKA club and became 12 time national champion as well as a seven time European Cup winner during that span. Being a defender did not prevent Kuzkin from recrding as impressive 70 goals during his club career. When he displayed his talents internationally, Kuzkin onjoyed similiar success, as his 18 goasl in 169 national team games testified. His nine IIHF World Championship appearances netted him 8 gold and one silver medal and was the recipient of three sonsecutive gold medals during the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Winter Olympic Games. Kuzkin was an esssential part of the Soviet Union squad that faced Team Canada in the infamous Summit Series in 1972. After Kuzkin left the game as a player, he went on to serve his club team  Central Red Army as an Asistant Coach for a period from 1976 until 1988.
