Andrei Starovoitov


Andrei Starovoitov was born December 16, 1915. He began actively playing with bandy and ice hockey at the beginning of the 1930s in Smolensk and continued with CSKA Moscow winning one national championship title. Starovoitov became a referee after his retirement as an ice hockey player and continued his new career until 1969. He participated as a referee in the IIHF World Championships in 1955,1956, 1957, 1958,1961,1963, 1965 and 1966 in Innsbruck. He was General Secretary of the former Soviet Ice Hockey Federation from 1969 to 1986. Starovoitov was also a member of the IIHF Referee Council for many years and was elected Honorary member of the IIHF in 1986. Andrei Starovoitov passed away on March 22, 1997. He was inducted to the IIHF Hall of Fame within the builders' category in 1997.
