Vladimir Dzurilla


Goalkeeper Vladimir Dzurilla was born on August 2, 1942 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. One of the best goaltenders in the history of international hockey, Dzurilla made his debut with the Czechoslovakian National Team at the 1963 World and European Championship. He saw action in three Olympics, 10 World and European Championships and the 1976 Canada Cup. Dzurilla was a world champion in 1972, 1976 and 1977, a silver medalist in 1965, 1966 and 1968, and a bronze medalist in 1963, 1964, 1969 and 1970. He was a four-time Olympian with two silver and two bronze medals, a 1976 Canada Cup hero, earned the 1965 IIHF Directorate best goalkeeper award, and was a 1965 and 1969 IIHF World Championship tournament all-star. Vladimir Dzurilla died on July 7, 1995.
