Yuri Karandin


Born March 22, 1937, Juri Karandin's 27-year career as a game official began back in 1960, during which he totalled 268 international games and an amazing 876 games within the USSR national championship. Among those international events that he participated in were numerous IIHF tournaments including 10 World Senior Championships, two World U20 and one U18 European Championships. Karandin represented his nation during two Olympic Winter Games events - back in 1982 and 1984. During his well respected career, Karandin also broadened his officiating horizons when refereeing in two separate Canada Cup tournaments.

A current member of the Executive Committee of the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia, Karandin was also a Golden Diploma of the IIHF for his service upon his retirement in 1987.
