Ove Dahlberg

Born April 12, 1931. Ove Dahlberg is still considered to be the best Swedish referee of all times and arguably the best Europe ever had. The "secret" behind Dahlberg's success as an official was his background as a player. He played at the highest national level for his Surahammars IF club and even played two games for the Swedish national team Tre Kronor, in 1954. Dahlberg, an excellent soccer player during periods when the rinks were not frozen, also refereed soccer (as high as World Cup qualifying games).

Both in ice hockey and soccer, His most notable performance was in game 2 of the 1976 Canada Cup final between Team Canada and Czechoslovakia where he, correctly, waved off two Canada goals. Ove Dahlberg passed in 1997.
