Gerry Cosby

Goalkeeper Gerry Cosby was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, USA. His outstanding work guarding the net secured the USA its first-ever IIHF World Championship title in 1933 in Prague. At that tournament, the USA beat Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Switzerland in the first round, with total goals of 17-0. In the semifinal, the USA beat Austria by a score of 4-0 and then won against Canada 2-1. Cosby allowed only one goal against in five games to win the championship title. He later entered the sporting goods business as a manufacturer and retailer for many years. "Gerry Cosby's", operated by his son Mike, is a world famous sporting goods store at Madison Square Garden in New York, and is visited by many hockey fans.
