| Born April 30, 1930 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Jack McLeod was the star offensive player with the Trail Smoke Eaters, which was the last Canadian amateur team to win the IIHF World Championship title back in 1961 in Switzerland. A former professional player, who had spent parts of five seasons with the New York Rangers in the NHL from 1949 to 1955, Jack had his amateur status reinstated and became eligible to represent Canada in IIHF World tournaments. In 1961 he won the goal scoring title with 10 goals in just seven games. In the following year, he finished second to Nils Nilsson of Sweden with 11 goals. McLeod took home a silver medal at the 1962 IIHF World Championship and was selected to the tournament all-star team. During three IIHF World Championship tournaments, McLeod accumulated a total of 46 points including 26 goals in just 21 games. He made his comeback as a head coach in 1966 but was suddenly added to the roster for Canada, scoring four more goals in the tournament and taking home a bronze medal. As a coach he led Canada to two more bronze medals, at the 1967 IIHF World Championship and in 1968, at the Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble. |
