The Brno Run
Climaxing a run of 18 games without a loss, ZKL Brno won its third straight European Cup championship, defeating Dukla Jihlava of Czechoslovakia 6-3 in a two games, total goals final in 1968. Brno won the first game 3-0 and the second ended in a 3-3 tie. The tie represented the only game the Brno club had not won in European Cup competition since it started in 1966. ZKL, with Vlastimil Bubnik, one of the greatest scorers in Czechoslovak hockey history, in its lineup, had defeated EV Fussen of West Germany four straight in a best of seven final in the inaugural Cup in 1966 and Ilves Tampere of Finland 3-2 and 4-3 in the 1967 final.

Bragging Rights
When the Czech Republic and Slovakia competed as separate countries for the first time in the Olympics at Lillehammer in 1994, Slovakia, which has about one-third the population, finished with a better preliminary round record of 3-0-2, than the Czechs, who were 3-2-0. But when the two countries met each other for the first time in history, in a playoff for fifth place, the Czechs won easily 7-1.
