DOMINIK HASEK of the Buffalo Sabres captured his first VEZINA TROPHY and shared the Jennings Trophy with teammate Grant Fuhr after the Sabres duo combined to allow a league-low 218 goals against during the regular season. HASEK became the first goaltender since Bernie Parent in 1974 to record a goals-against average under 2.00 with an NHL-best 1.95. He also led the NHL in save percentage at .930 and set a Sabres' record with seven shutouts. He was named to the First All-Star Team at season's end. John Vanbiesbrouck of Florida was the VEZINA runner-up.
