Swedish goaltending sensation PELLE LINDBERGH became the first European goaltender to capture the VEZINA TROPHY after leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a club-record 53 wins and a first overall finish in the NHL. LINDBERGH himself picked up 40 wins to lead the league, while finishing in the top three in goals-against average (3.02), save percentage (.899%) and shutouts (2). The Flyers, who also had a season high 11-game win streak and 15-game home undefeated streak, were led to the Stanley Cup Finals by Lindbergh's playoff best 2.50 goals-against average. Unfortunately, PELLE'S extremely promising career was cut short when the netminder died tragically in a car accident on November 10, 1985. Last year's VEZINA winner Tom Barrasso was the runner-up.
