Boston, Massachusetts native and 19-year old TOM BARRASSO joined Frank Brimsek and Tony Esposito as the only netminders to win both the Calder Trophy as Rookie-of-the-Year and VEZINA TROPHY in the same season. BARRASSO'S record first season also included a berth on both the All-Rookie Team and the NHL's First All-Star Team. Along with a 26-12-3 record, BARRASSO recorded a 2.84 goals-against average, second best in the NHL, and a .893 save percentage, third best in the league. His exploits also included a Sabre record 10-game winning streak. Reggie Lemelin of Calgary was the trophy's runner-up.
