Coming off his Team Canada victory at the 1972 Summit Series versus the Soviet Union, KEN DRYDEN carried over his stellar play into the NHL regular season. At year's end, he would capture his first VEZINA TROPHY and earn a berth on the First All-Star Team. DRYDEN posted a league-high 33 wins, 2.26 goals-against average and six shutouts. Montreal as a team set new club records with 52 wins and 120 points, which included an NHL best 15-game road undefeated streak. Ed Giacomin and Gilles Villemure of the Rangers placed second in the VEZINA race.
