JACQUES PLANTE became the first goaltender in NHL history to capture the VEZINA TROPHY in five successive seasons, breaking Bill Durnan's record of four in a row. PLANTE led the Canadiens to a first overall finish with only four losses at home during the regular season. He also led the NHL with a record of 40-17-12 and a goals-against average of 2.54, while adding three shutouts. He continued his stellar play throughout the playoffs with a spectacular 1.35 goals-against average and three shutouts during the Habs eight game sweep to the title. Chicago's Glenn Hall was the VEZINA runner-up.
