JACQUES PLANTE of the Montreal Canadiens captured his fourth consecutive VEZINA TROPHY in 1959, tying the record set by former Habs netminder Bill Durnan. PLANTE led the Canadiens to the NHL's regular season championship, allowing a meagre 144 goals against of the club's 158 total. JACQUES also led the league in all major statistical goaltender categories including, wins (38), shutouts (9) and goals-against average (2.16). The First Team All-Star continued his outstanding play during the playoffs, topping the league in goals-against average (2.51) while capturing the club's fourth consecutive Stanley Cup championship. The Leafs combo of Johnny Bower and Ed Chadwick were the VEZINA runners-up.
