For the third time in four seasons, TERRY SAWCHUK of the Detroit Red Wings captured the VEZINA TROPHY as the league's top netminder in one of the narrowest margins of victory in the trophy's illustrious history. SAWCHUK and the Red Wings allowed 134 goals, one fewer than Harry Lumley and the Toronto Maple Leafs. TERRY led the Red Wings to their seventh consecutive regular season championship by leading the league in most major statistical goaltender categories, including wins (40), goals-against average (1.94) and a Red Wings team record 12 shutouts. The Maple Leafs' Harry Lumley finished second in the VEZINA derby.
