BILL DURNAN set a new record by capturing his second consecutive and sixth VEZINA TROPHY as the league's top netminder, along with being named a First Team All-Star. With only eight losses at home and an NHL-record 19 ties, the Canadiens' DURNAN marched to a 26-21-17 record with eight shutouts and a league-leading 2.20 goals-against average. Following the season, BILL, who began his career at age 27 and would play for only seven seasons, retired from the game of hockey after winning six Vezina Trophies in seven years. Harry Lumley of Detroit was the VEZINA runner-up.
