BILL DURNAN surpassed Tiny Thompson's four career VEZINA TROPHIES by winning his fifth in six years following the 1948-59 season. The First Team All-Star would set a modern day NHL record (since the advent of the red line in 1943) with a remarkable shutout sequence of 309 minutes and 21 seconds, including five straight shutouts. His record was a very credible 28-23-9, while he led the NHL in games played (60), minutes played (3,600), shutouts (10) and goals-against average (2.10). Harry Lumley of Detroit was the trophy's runner-up.
