1944-45

BILL DURNAN became just the second goaltender in NHL history to capture the VEZINA TROPHY in successive seasons, following the lead of another great Montreal Canadiens goaltender, George Hainsworth. DURNAN, who had only played in the NHL for two years, was also named a First Team All-Star after leading the Habs to a second consecutive Prince of Wales Trophy. Allowing a meagre 121 goals throughout the season, DURNAN led all puckstoppers in games played (50), minutes played (3,000), wins (38) and goals-against average (2.42). Frank McCool of Toronto and Harry Lumley of Detroit tied for VEZINA runner-up honours.
