1951-52

For the first time ever, a team went undefeated in the playoffs. The Detroit Red Wings were able to sweep the Toronto Maple Leafs to earn a berth in the Stanley Cup final against the Montreal Canadiens. In the finals, Detroit goaltender Terry Sawchuk held Montreal to only two goals in the four-game sweep, registering shutouts in games three and four. Detroit's Gordie Howe scored two goals in the final series--the first two Stanley Cup final goals of his career.
