During the shortened National Hockey League season, the DETROIT RED WINGS still managed to amass 70 points in only 48 games. With a league leading goals against of just 117 goals, the RED WINGS won the PRESIDENTS' TROPHY besting the runner-up Quebec Nordiques by five points.
