The St. Louis Blues finished the 1980-81 season first in the Smythe Division. A large part of their success was attributed to the stellar play of goaltender MIKE LIUT. The Weston, Ontario native entered the NHL in 1979-80 with a bang, leading the NHL in wins for a goaltender (32). But 1980-81 was even better, as LIUT and the Blues won 33 games. He posted one shutout and a fine goals-against average of 3.34. The NHL chose MIKE as the First All-Star Team goaltender and the NHLPA honoured him with the PEARSON AWARD.
