Chicago Blackhawks
1943-44

After six seasons in New York, including a Stanley Cup celebration, CLINT SMITH was signed by the Chicago Black Hawks before the 1943-44 season. The Hawks needed some firepower at forward, and got it from the Assiniboia, Saskatchewan native. SMITH enjoyed the finest offensive season of his 10-year career, scoring 23 goals, an NHL best 49 assists and 72 points. SMITH finished sixth in NHL scoring and did so with just four minutes in penalties. In fact, during his entire career, CLINT never earned a major penalty, and took just 24 minutes total. For 1943-44, the LADY BYNG TROPHY went to Chicago's CLINT SMITH, with Boston's Herb Cain finishing second.
