Saku Koivu's personal demonstration of courage as a cancer survivor are a source of inspiration and pride to his teammates, all who know him and the many of patients and their families who benefit from his selfless devotion. Since beating non-Hodgkins lymphoma, Koivu founded the Saku Koivu Foundation in 2002. Sine then, Saku Koivu Foundation has raised $2.5 million, leading to the first PET/CT scanner in Montreal. This advanced technology has proved invaluable in the treatment of thousands of cancer patients. Aside from monetary donations, Saku meets patients after practices and games and signs personalized get well cards, inspiring and making wishes come true for children in need.
