Adam Graves had been an integral part of the New York community, involving himself in countless endeavours since his move to the Rangers in 1991. For two consecutive seasons his teammates selected him for the Players Player Award, while for three straight years, the fans have voted him winner of the Extra Effort Award for going beyond the call of duty off the ice. Graves had been actively involved in the "Ice Hockey in Harlem" program and spent time as the Chairman of the Greater New York City Ice Hockey League. His charitable work included the Prevention of Child Abuse program, the Leukemia Society, Multiple Sclerosis and the March of Dimes, as well as Celebrity Chairman of New York's Family Dynamic program for abused children.
