GLEN SATHER became the first Oilers coach to win the JACK ADAMS AWARD. His Edmonton team became the first-ever recipient of the President's Trophy as the NHL club finishing the regular-season with the best overall record. The Oilers recorded 56 wins to finish atop the Smythe Division. Edmonton's 119 points equaled a franchise best from the previous season. The trophy's runner-up was Jacques Demers of St. Louis.
