Pronger, Chris
St. Louis Blues

The giant defenseman (6'6", 220 pounds) was the second draft pick overall in 1993, selected by the Hartford Whalers. But after two seasons, CHRIS PRONGER was sent to St. Louis in exchange for Brendan Shanahan. As a Blue, PRONGER emerged as not only an outstanding defenseman, but as a leader as well. In 1999-2000, CHRIS scored a career best 62 points, helping the Blues to a 114 point finish -- good for first place overall. He was selected as the NHL's best defenseman, earning the NORRIS TROPHY, made the NHL's First All-Star Team, and was selected as the league's most valuable player. PRONGER was the first defenseman to capture the HART since Bobby Orr did it back in 1972. Jaromir Jagr of the Penguins was the HART runner-up.
