The NHL first awarded the HART TROPHY in 1923-24. FRANK NIGHBOR was the proud inaugural recipient of the prestigious trophy. He scored 11 goals and six assists for 17 points during the 20 games he played in the 24-game season, and was awarded the HART TROPHY as a result. Sprague Cleghorn of Montreal was the HART runner-up. NIGHBOR finished ninth in scoring and helped the Ottawa Senators finish the season in first place.
