Makarov, Sergei
Calgary Flames
1989-90
MAKAROV was a 31-year old rookie when he joined the Calgary Flames in 1989-90. After a long career with CSKA Moscow, MAKAROV was drafted 241st in the 1983 entry draft, but wouldn't move to North America until seven years later. But when he did join the Flames, SERGEI proved that the Flames had been prudent with their draft choices. Playing full-time as a Flame, MAKAROV scored 24 goals and 62 assists for 86 points. SERGEI MAKAROV helped the Flames finish first in the Smythe Division, collecting 99 points. The CALDER TROPHY winner for 1989-90 was SERGEI MAKAROV of the Calgary Flames. The Minnesota North Stars' Mike Modano was runner-up to MAKAROV.
