For the second time in as many seasons, and one of only a handful of teams to accomplish such a feat, the EDMONTON OILERS won the Stanley Cup. The OILERS defeated the Chicago Blackhawks during the Campbell Conference Finals to earn the right to defend their crown during the Stanley Cup Finals. Along the way Wayne Gretzky captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as "Most Valuable Player" in the playoffs.
