Washington Capitals goaltender, Jose Theodore and his wife, Stephanie, suffered unimaginable tragedy when their two-month old son, Chace, passed away from respiratory complications, stemming from a premature birth. In Chace's honour, Jose started the Saves for Kids program, which benefits the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's National Medical Center where Chace was treated.

In goal for the Capitals, Thoedore had one of the best seasons of his career. His .761 winning percentage was a Capitals all-time best and helped the club to its first Presidents' Trophy.

Theodore pledged money for each save, win and shutout during the 2009-10 season and at season's end was able to present a cheque worth $35,000 to Children's National Medical Center.
