Sitting before his stunned New Jersey Devils teammates, KEN DANEYKO tearfully announced that he would be voluntarily entering a substance abuse program in November 1998. The Windsor, Ontario native went through the program and turned his personal and professional life around. DANEYKO came back, playing a handful of games that season, returning to his aggressive defense position full-time the next season. In 1999-2000, his 17th with the Devils, KEN DANEYKO added his veteran leadership and often belligerent defense to the Devils drive to win their second Stanley Cup. For his perseverance and dedication, overcoming a huge obstacle in the process, KEN DANEYKO was awarded the MASTERTON TROPHY.
