Roberts, Gary
Calgary Flames
1995-96

During the 1994-95 season, GARY ROBERTS suffered a neck injury that kept him out of the majority of 1994-95 and a good portion of 1995-96. Yet, in spite of playing just 35 games in '95-96, ROBERTS scored 22 goals and 20 assists for the Flames. ROBERTS had been an integral part of the Calgary team for 10 seasons, and had, in fact, scored 53 goals in 1991-92. For working his way through a serious injury that threatened his career, GARY ROBERTS was selected as the MASTERTON TROPHY winner in 1995-96. Ironically, ROBERTS did not play a single game during the 1996-97 season, and most considered ROBERTS' career finished. But GARY surprised everyone associated with the NHL by signing as a free agent with the Carolina Hurricanes and contributing 20 goals and 29 assists to their 1997-98 season.
